WordPress Websites - Jumping FishEssential WordPress post publishing information can be found at: http://codex.wordpress.org/Posts. What’s written below is a bit of extra fine-tuning for the Avada theme, site taxonomy and the Yoast SEO plugin.

The WordPress dashboard is at https://www.your-domain.com/wp-admin. Unless you are using a plugin to hide this default url. If you don’t remember your password please use “Lost your password?” on the login page.

Note: To see all of the sections listed below on the Edit Post page, make sure you enable their display using the “Screen Options” menu at the top right area of the page.

Title: Include the focus keyword phrase in the post title. More about focus keywords.

Permalink: Use the permalink WordPress assigns. If you change the title you’ll need to update the permalink.

Publish Status: Save as Draft or Private until ready to Publish final.

Format: Leave as Standard

Categories: Select one or more of the categories already on the list. Don’t add another category without considering existing site taxonomy. If you leave post as “Uncategorized” it won’t show up on the website in the right places. Select a Primary category if more than one category.

Tags: Add tags from your post copy that your target audience might be searching for. But not too many. Similar to hashtags in social posts/tweets. More about this.

Featured image: Always have one. Recommend minimum 1000px width, minimum 250px height, compressed jpg. Add the focus keyword phrase to the image file name and also to the alt tag. eg image file name= “/wp-content/uploads/5-solid-seo-tips.jpg”, image alt tag= “Solid SEO Tips”. If you don’t include the keyword at a minimum include your company name or domain name into the file name and alt tag.

Body copy: Use H2 for section headings. Include the focus keyword phrase in headings and body copy. Leave paragraph styles as default. The H1 tag is the post title. Don’t add more H1 tags. 300 words minimum is better for SEO.

Body images: Be sure to include an alt tag with inserted images and media. Use the post’s focus keyword in image alt tags.

Body styling: For additional styling options and elements, click on the Fusion Builder Element Generator drop down in the edit menu. There are many cool styling effects you can use to increase the visual quality and readability of your post.

Excerpt: Leave empty.

Discussion: Allow comments. And pingbacks.

Sharing: Show sharing buttons enabled.

Slug: Use the slug WordPress assigns.

Yoast SEO: Only publish with focus keyword specified and SEO score is “Good”.

Author: Use only the primary author. Not your user account or personal account.

Publicize: This optional feature in Jetpack makes it possible to automatically publish your post to the pages at Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and LinkedIn. Your post is automatically re-posted unless you de-select specific channels. More about Publicize.

Focus Keyword: As much as possible, the focus keyword phrase should be selected from the top 100 keyword list for this website.
